Rescue:
Sitting on her balcony catching the last few warm hours of fall and elderly woman noticed a car
pull into the parking lot of her apartment building. She didn’t recognize the car and she had
lived there for many many years but when the car pulled out quickly she suddenly saw a
number of cats. It seems that they have been dumped. this is very sad and there are laws
against abandoning cats, but she did not see the person or license plate. The cats were
frightened and she started putting food out on her balcony for them, and soon they came to
retrieve it, and were welcomed inside her apartment. Now five months later they have reached
maturity and are starting to breed. This is where this pretty mama cat and six babies came
from. There are many others there as well and she was recommended to contact a local city
shelter as well as other rescue groups to help with spaying and neuter this little colony. There
are just too many for one cat rescue organization to handle all at once. The sad part is these
cats are not social.
Personality:
Opal is a petite and energetic cat who loves to run around with her toys, chasing them and
tossing them down the stairs, just because. Crinkly toys and anything that dangles is fair
games, and she likes to chase dragging wand toys or strings. She is a loving and affectionate
cat as well and likes her head scratches, cuddles and back massages. Initially she can be
cautious with new humans, but it doesn’t take long for her to adjust. She truly loves her people.
Opal can often be found basking in a sunny spot to curl up for her afternoon nap after a play
session. In the evening before bed, she gives a show of chasing her own tail. Adorable. Opal
is ready to be adopted into her forever home. One that will welcome her into the family and
keep her safely indoors.
