For Our Sweet Indra 🤍
We promised Indra we would fight for her.
And we did.
With extensive veterinary care from several vets (examinations, medication, multiple X-rays, consultations, medical procedures, referrals) and dedicated volunteers, we gave this little girl every chance we possibly could after she was run over by a truck.
Heartbreakingly, Indra’s injuries could not be repaired and she crossed the rainbow bridge.
We don’t often share these losses, but they are part of animal rescue. Sometimes we can do everything right, pour every bit of love and care we have into them, and still not get the ending we prayed for.
Her left hip was broken into many pieces and caused nerve damage. Therefore she could not use her left leg, move her tail or have any control over her bowels or bladder. Detailed Xray showed part of the broken pelvis was pressing into her bowel and could cause sepsis at any moment. She was paralyzed from her lower back down.
Her sister Isla stayed close and gave Indra so much comfort while they were together. She remained by her side until she went to the vet.
Isla is getting lots of love from our volunteers before she goes to a loving foster home.
Indra didn’t leave this world as an injured little farm kitten with nobody fighting for her. She left it safe, cared for and very, very loved.
Rest peacefully, beautiful girl. 🤍🌈🐾
Hi… my name is Indra. 🩷🐾
It was awful! One moment, I was underneath a pick up truck taking in the shade and cool breeze during a hot summer’s afternoon, on the farm where I was born.
Then it started moving.
I remember being squished and then in full fear running out from underneath it and screaming.
Everything hurt.
I couldn’t use my back end properly, I couldn’t put weight on my legs, and I was so scared. I didn’t understand why my body suddenly wouldn’t do what I wanted it to do.
Someone knew I needed help right away and called Pet Patrol.
When the volunteers came for me, the family sent my sister Isla too. She’s my best friend, and having her curled up tightly beside me made everything just a little less frightening. We were leaving the only place we’d ever known, but at least we were leaving together.
I was rushed straight to the vet.
The X-rays showed I had a broken pelvis and now there are concerns about me being able to go to the litter box on my own. I’m going to need surgery.
I’m scared.
I’m already such a petite little girl, and I’m underweight from a life where things haven’t always been easy. Country life might sound peaceful, but for cats like me, it can be unpredictable and dangerous.
I’ve always been treated kindly. I know what it feels like to be petted and carried, and I love people. That’s why, even through all of this, I’m still the same sweet, gentle little girl.
I just don’t understand why I’m hurting so much.
Pet Patrol is going to do everything they can to save me and give me the chance to walk, play and curl up with Isla again without pain. My emergency veterinary care, X-rays, surgery and recovery are going to be expensive, and I need some help.
Right now, I don’t need to understand everything that’s happening.
I just need to be brave.
I have Isla beside me, people fighting for me, and hopefully all of you cheering me on too.
I survived that truck.
Now I just want the chance to get back on my paws. 🩷
With scared but hopeful little purrs,
Indra 🐱🐾
