Hi… my name is Tommy. 🐾💙
For a while, I was just a tomcat wandering through the middle of the city with a very sore leg.
I don’t know exactly how it happened. I just know my back leg hurt so badly that I couldn’t walk properly anymore. So when I found a quiet back porch with two kind people who left me food and fresh water, I decided to stick around.
At first, I kept my distance. Life had taught me to be careful. But it’s amazing what a full tummy and a little kindness can do. Within a few days, I was coming closer, asking for affection and letting them see the sweet boy hiding underneath all that caution.
That’s when they realized just how badly I needed help.
My back leg was terribly swollen around my knee, and every step hurt. They contacted Pet Patrol, borrowed a humane trap and put some tasty food inside. I went right in.
Honestly, I was tired of hurting.
At the vet, they took X-rays and discovered the damage was even worse than anyone imagined. It looks like I was bitten, causing such severe damage that my knee joint has essentially been destroyed. The vets can barely identify the bone that should be there.
There’s no way to fix my leg.
It needs to be amputated.
That sounds awfully scary. I’ve spent my whole life with four legs, and I don’t really understand what waking up with only three will feel like.
But everyone keeps telling me something I do understand:
It won’t hurt anymore.
I’ll learn to balance. I’ll learn to run. I’ll still climb, play, cuddle and do all the things cats do. I just need some help getting there.
My surgery, X-rays, biopsy, medications and recovery care will be expensive, but Pet Patrol has promised me that this sore leg doesn’t have to be part of my life forever.
I found one little porch when I needed kindness most.
Now I’ve found a whole community willing to help me.
And I’m feeling pretty hopeful about what comes next. 💙
With grateful purrs,
Tommy 🐱🐾
