Rescue:

Elara first appeared mid November
thin, scared, and wary of people. By the end of the month, her
condition had worsened. She was unkempt, covered in small wounds, and clearly struggling to
survive. Her rescuer began leaving food out daily in a makeshift shelter and would call for her when
she got home from work. Slowly, Elara learned the routine. She would rush in to eat, gulping down
her food before vanishing again into the cold. All winter long, a path was cleared for her to safely
reach the porch. As spring arrived, Elara began to trust. She rubbed up against her rescuer, purred,
and even curled up in her lap for brief moments of affection though she still had her moments of
fear. Then, on May 20th, Elara revealed her secret. She led her rescuer to the back of the house
and began to call. One by one, her kittens emerged from the barn. Though protective, Elara
allowed gentle pets, always keeping a watchful eye over her little ones. For such a young mom,
she had done an incredible job keeping them alive. Now, thanks to compassion and care, Elara and
her babies Elijah, Ember and Emiko are safe and on the path to a brighter future.

Personality:

Elara is a sweet and elegant girl, long, lean, and strikingly orange, which is a rare and beautiful
colour for a female cat. She carries it with grace and confidence. In our care, Elara has done well
with the other cats, though the busy sanctuary environment isn’t quite her style. She’d be perfectly
happy as an only cat or sharing a home with one calm, easygoing feline companion. Curious and
observant, she’s explored every nook and cranny, tested out the toys, and loves gazing out the
window at the world beyond. Affectionate and gentle, Elara enjoys being picked up and carried, and
will gladly soak up all the pets and attention you can offer. Elara is ready to be adopted into her
forever home. One that will welcome her into the family and keep her safely indoors.
