Rescue:
The P family came from a farm just up the road from the Pet Patrol sanctuary. The barn was home
to a variety of animals, with the kittens growing up amongst them. While this may be a common
way of life on a farm, it certainly wasn’t a safe environment for tiny kittens. Pet Patrol initially
received a call saying there were five babies needing help, but when volunteers arrived, they
quickly discovered eight kittens instead—and only three had been secured. Catching the remaining
five turned into quite the rescue mission! Volunteers found themselves lying on the barn floor
amongst manure, reaching underneath wooden skids, and creatively maneuvering through narrow
spaces between enormous bales of straw. A few of the kittens were also suffering from upper
respiratory and eye infections, something that can quickly become serious for kittens so little. One
by one, all eight were finally secured and brought into care with warm beds, proper medical care,
and full bellies.
Personality:
Packard is a gentle boy who is slowly building his confidence and learning that the people around
him can be trusted. Rather than immediately running away, he is now more likely to peek out from
beneath the dresser and quietly watch as his foster interacts with the other kittens, taking
everything in from a place where he feels secure. He is happiest with another kitten nearby and is
rarely found on his own, so having a friendly kitten or littermate in his new home will be important
as he continues to blossom. Interestingly, Packard already seems quite comfortable around the two
calm Labs in his foster home and isn’t bothered by their presence. With patient people who will
allow him to progress at his own pace, his confidence should continue to grow. Packard would be
best suited to a quieter home with older, calm children or no children and could happily share his
home with a calm dog. Packard is ready to be adopted into his forever home—one that will
welcome him into the family and keep him safely indoors.
