Rescue:
Pet Patrol was alerted to a rural property where the number of cats had quietly grown beyond what
one family could manage. After an elderly woman passed away, her daughter inherited the property
and the many cats her mother had lovingly cared for over the years. As time went on, it became
clear that keeping up with spaying and neutering had become impossible, and by the time help
arrived, there were 12 adult cats and 19 kittens living throughout the property. The cats had
managed to create cozy little shelters for themselves amongst the farm equipment, stacked
furniture, boxes, and warm straw scattered through the sheds and coop. A heat lamp in the chicken
coop helped keep many of them warm, and despite their circumstances, the cats were healthy,
friendly, and eager for attention. Volunteers were greeted by affectionate adults weaving around
their legs while tiny kittens peeked out shyly from behind abandoned fridges, stacked lawn chairs,
and hidden corners before slowly venturing out to investigate. They were safely brought into Pet
Patrol’s care, where they could begin their next chapter in loving foster homes.
Personality:
Periwinkle is the gentle giant of the litter. Although he started out much bigger than his siblings, he
has always been wonderfully careful and gentle when wrestling and playing with them. Full of
playful energy, he loves chasing string toys, pouncing on toy mice, and joining in the group’s
endless wrestling matches, especially with Poplar and little Palmetto. When playtime is over,
Periwinkle has an incredibly sweet side and loves being held like a baby while enjoying gentle belly
rubs before drifting off to sleep. Friendly, affectionate, and easy to handle, Periwinkle would love a
home with another playful cat to keep him company. Periwinkle is ready to be adopted into his
forever home. One that will welcome him into the family and keep him safely indoors.
