Rescue:
Pet Patrol was alerted to a rural property where the number of cats had quietly grown beyond what one family could manage. After an elderly woman passed away, her daughter inherited the property and the many cats her mother had lovingly cared for over the years. As time went on, it became clear that keeping up with spaying and neutering had become impossible, and by the time help arrived, there were 12 adult cats and 19 kittens living throughout the property. The cats had managed to create cozy little shelters for themselves amongst the farm equipment, stacked furniture, boxes, and warm straw scattered through the sheds and coop. A heat lamp in the chicken coop helped keep many of them warm, and despite their circumstances, the cats were healthy, friendly, and eager for attention. Volunteers were greeted by affectionate adults weaving around their legs while tiny kittens peeked out shyly from behind abandoned fridges, stacked lawn chairs, and hidden corners before slowly venturing out to investigate. They were safely brought into Pet Patrol’s care, where they could begin their next chapter in loving foster homes.
Personality:
Poppy is impossible to miss thanks to the adorable skunk stripe running down her back and her even more memorable personality. Affectionately nicknamed “Floppy Poppy,” she has a habit of dramatically flopping onto the floor the moment her people walk into the room, eagerly waiting for belly rubs. She was the very first kitten to decide people were wonderful and quickly convinced the rest of her siblings to follow her lead. Friendly, affectionate, and playful, Poppy loves wrestling with Poplar and Posey, chasing toys, and greeting everyone with excitement. And she’s the only one in her litter that makes cute noises when zooming! When she’s tired, her favourite place is curled up on a warm lap where she can drift off to sleep after another busy day of kitten adventures. Poppy is ready to be adopted into her forever home. One that will welcome her into the family and keep her safely indoor.
