Rescue:
Pet Patrol received a call from a woman who had been feeding a young cat she noticed visiting her
home starting in November, just as winter was setting in. With cold winds and one of the snowiest
winters in recent memory, she made sure the cat—now named Nixie—had food and some
protection from the weather. Nixie ate on the back deck and had access to a small tentlike shelter
with a cat house inside, which helped block the wind though the cold was still harsh. Found in the
heart of a small village surrounded by farmland, it’s unclear exactly where Nixie originally came
from, though a large roaming orange tom was often seen nearby. Over time, Nixie became
friendlier, and it soon became clear that she was pregnant. The night before she gave birth, the
woman brought her into a heated garage so she could deliver her kittens safely. Nixie and her
babies stayed there for their first week before coming into Pet Patrol’s care. Now safe indoors,
Nixie and her kittens have a much brighter future ahead.
Personality:
Nixie is a loving and affectionate girl who will happily ask for pets endlessly and purrs constantly
while soaking up attention. Her quiet trills and raspy meow is endlessly charming, especially while
she headbutts her humans to show she cares. Nixie especially loves being brushed and has grown
very trusting of people, though she is still nervous about being picked up and isn’t quite brave
enough for laps yet. She hasn’t quite figured out how to play with toys consistently, but that’s only
because she’s an incredibly attentive mommy who hasn’t had the chance to spend time being free
of responsibility! Nixie is ready to be adopted into her forever home. One that will welcome her into
the family and keep her safely indoors.
