Rescue:
“He’s sleeping with my chickens”. This was a text message sent to Pet Patrol by one of our
long time volunteers. She had rescued a feral cat earlier in the year, had him neutered and
cared for and proving unmanageable she returned him back into her barn. He was happiest
out there and sleeping with the chickens. Eight months later, she is moving and was
not going to just leave him behind. Again he was humanely trapped and brought into Pet
Patrol care and we checked his microchip to make sure it was the same cat. No
chip…hmmm. Where did the first cat go? (later discovered at the neighbours barn) This
new boy had been around all summer and was timid but completely petable and loved to
have his neck scratched and ears rubbed. This was Barney and he has become a very
loving and affectionate cat.
Personality:
What a change in Barney’s personality in a very short period of time since his rescue.
Initially he was quite shy and concerned about his new environment but once he became
comfortable and slowly integrated into the sanctuary with the other cats, he was out and
about exploring. Often he can be found lounging on the wide windowsills looking outdoors,
walking up to the volunteers for petting and showing affection by rubbing up against your
legs. He loves to be pet, brushed and he will now jump up on the couch beside you for a
bit of a cuddle. In a new home Barney will adjust nicely and continue becoming the wonderful
loving cat that he is. He is ready to be adopted into his forever home. One that will
welcome into the family and keep him safely indoors.
