Rescue:
A husband and wife, who live in a small town close to the sanctuary, had been feeding a
mother cat for a year. It was clear that she had shelter somewhere in the neighbourhood and
she was in good health and had shiny coat, so no one was worried about her. Problem was :
she had already had a litter of kittens and they assumed she was pregnant again. The first
litter was rescued and re homed but some disappeared before they could all be gathered up.
The couple noticed the kittens were coming up onto their back deck to the feeding station and
this made their rescue very easy. The food was put into a humane trap and the door was
propped open with a stick that had a string attached. As the kittens began feeding and were
engrossed in their tasty food, the man pulled the string and the door closed safely being them.
The kittens were then brought into Pet Patrol care, two in one day. The third attempt at rescuing
the kittens resulted in the mother being rescued, this was Della. They were overjoyed and
by the next afternoon the last kitten came into our care. All are safe, cared for and the mother
has now been spayed.
Personality:
Della took a few days to settle into her new home at Pet Patrol, awaiting her spay date, but
she soon made herself comfortable. It was obvious that she was a friendly cat, possibly pre
owned and left outside. It is not uncommon for people in a small town to allow their cats to be
indoor/outdoor; but also not uncommon for them to go missing. Della has shown us that she is
very friendly and affectionate. She loves people, being pet, brushed and given love and attention.
Not sure of being picked up, she will soon learn to trust her people and, with time and
patience, be ok with that as well. Della is ready to be adopted into her forever home. One
that will welcome her into the family and keep her safely indoors.
