Rescue:
Velvet’s life started on the street in the middle of town, and she was rescued from a rural community
many miles away. She arrived at a feeding station in a trailer park during the wet and
cold weather of spring. A woman heard her meowing and took food out for her, Velvet nervously
would approach her, and allow to be pet a few times but would not allow the opportunity
to be rescued. The woman saw her mostly late at night when the raccoons had left and before
the coyotes started to hunt. On the night Velvet was rescued the woman sat outside until 2am
with some animal growling at her from under the porch and coyotes howling in the field. She
scrambled to secure this pretty cat, almost lost her once, but with determination Velvet was
safely put into a cat carrier and brought into the house. Once in Pet Patrol care we found she
was microchipped which led us to her owner. Apparently, Velvet was born in their back yard
and all four kittens were tamed, spayed or neutered and microchipped but continued their life
outside. Suddenly one day they just disappeared. This led us to believe that the cats were
picked up by a neighbor and abandoned in the country. We continue to search for the others.
Personality:
Pretty little Velvet is super friendly. She is very easy to pick up and cuddle which is
unusual for some cats that have been raised outside. The people who cared for her initially
did a good job of socializing her. She can be quite chatty at times, but she just wants to know
what is going on and if you will pet her. As a playful cat she has taken full advantage of the
toys, climbers and kitty tunnels in the playroom of the sanctuary, joining in on games with other
cats. Velvet is ready to be adopted into her forever home. One that will welcome her into the
family and keep her safely indoors
