Rescue:
Just before Christmas, a small black mother cat and four ten week old kittens began appearing at a
neighborhood feeding station, coming from an old shed area nearby. Though timid and uncertain at
first, they slowly grew comfortable enough to stay and eat while their caretakers were nearby. The
kittens sometimes allowed gentle touches, but their protective mother—later named Betty—kept
her distance, watching over them carefully. The plan was to gradually gain their trust and rescue
them when the weather improved, but in February it became clear that Betty was pregnant again.
On a cold, foggy day in early March, she was discovered sheltering in a strawfilled box with six
newborn kittens. Knowing the family needed help, the rescuers quickly secured Betty and carefully
gathered her babies, bringing them safely to Pet Patrol. Now the whole family is warm, safe, and
Betty will finally be spayed so she never has to endure another litter.
Personality:
Woahhh, Black Betty… Betty has undergone an incredible transformation from the very feral,
untouchable mama who arrived with six tiny kittens. After raising her babies, she has spent the last
six months discovering just how wonderful life as a house cat can be—and she is absolutely loving
it. Betty appreciates all the comforts she once lived without, whether she’s lounging in a sunny
window perch, relaxing in the catio, or finding the coziest couch, bed, or fluffy spot in the house.
She is very easygoing with other cats and kittens, enjoys running and playing with her foster
friends, and is even comfortable sharing her home with a big Border Collie. Betty is still learning to
fully trust people, but she has made tremendous progress from the frightened girl who couldn’t be
touched. She now enjoys daily pets and scratches and continues to become more comfortable with
affection as time goes on. Betty needs an understanding family who will respect her past, allow
their relationship to develop at her pace, and give her all the time she needs to continue
blossoming. Betty is ready to be adopted into her forever home—one that will welcome her into the
family and keep her safely indoors.
