Rescue:
Pet Patrol volunteers were alerted to a property where a growing colony of cats was struggling to
survive. Two neighbouring rental properties had become overrun with old vehicles, which created
endless hiding places for cats but provided very little safety. By the time help arrived, there were
approximately five adult cats and fifteen kittens between the two properties. Some of the kittens
had taken shelter inside a neglected shed, the condition inside of which was heartbreaking: clutter,
deceased animals, unknown chemicals, and debris scattered throughout. Several of the kittens
arrived completely unfamiliar with human kindness, and two were suffering from severe eye
infections. Shizen’s eye was too badly damaged to save and had to be surgically removed.
Although they were understandably terrified when they first came into care, patience, gentle
handling, and plenty of love helped these resilient kittens discover that people could be wonderful.
Personality:
Satoru and Shizen are two incredible boys whose bond has only grown stronger through everything
they’ve experienced together. Shizen is the laidback, happygolucky one who takes life as it
comes, making friends with everyone from his siblings to the resident cats and even the dog. He
loves running, climbing, wrestling, and playing, but is just as happy curling up for a cuddle and a
purring nap afterward. Satoru is the quieter half of the duo. After adjusting to life with one eye, he
was understandably a little shy, but with Shizen by his side his confidence has blossomed. He now
happily tumbles, explores, and keeps up with all the other kittens, becoming more social and
adventurous every day. These two have overcome so much together and are finally enjoying the
carefree kittenhood they deserve. They balance each other perfectly and would love to continue
life’s adventures side by side. Shizen and Satoru are ready to be adopted into their forever home
together—one that will welcome them into the family and keep them safely indoors.
