Carlton

Carlton

Rescue:

One bitterly cold evening, a man arrived unexpectedly at the sanctuary with a large cat secured inside a humane trap, visibly upset and soaked from the snow. The trap held only an upturned plate of wet kibble, and the freezing temperatures made the situation especially urgent. The man explained that the cat had appeared at his feeding station and was preventing his four shop cats each spayed or neutered and living with access to a heated outdoor enclosure from eating. This cat was Carlton, and at first glance, his large jowls made it clear he was not neutered, though he was indecent body condition. His frantic thrashing in the trap led the man to believe he was feral, but Carlton was simply terrified and likely knew he wouldn’t survive the night in such conditions. Once safely inside the sanctuary, staff noticed a very tight pet collar around his neck, clear evidence tha the had known people before. When the collar was removed, Carlton immediately relaxed, leaning into neck rubs, ear scratches, and purring contentedly. After what must have been a long period of discomfort, Carlton settled into sanctuary life surprisingly well, cautious but calm, finally safe and comfortable.

Personality:

Carlton is a big, burly teddy bear with the sweetest, gentlest soul. Despite his size, he’s incredibly soft natured and kind, making him a lovely companion for both people and other cats. Carlton is very affectionate and truly enjoys human attention, happily soaking up pets and leaning into every bit of love offered to him. His presence brings a comforting warmth to any space he is in. His playful nature is starting to emerge as he settles into complete indoor life which he is thriving in. Catnip is the favorite so far. This handsome boy is ready to be adopted into his forever home. One that will welcome him into the family and keep him safely indoors.
