Rescue:

There was a colony of cats who were found behind a manufacturing building in town. The
colony had been cared for there by the staff, feeding them daily and even providing insulated
cat houses for them. The nice thing was they were all friendly, but the sad thing was the
colony was growing. A company memo was sent out, saying that they had consulted with the
city shelter who said to stop feeding the cats. That is sad and wrong. Rescuing them is the
answer. Coyotes are running through the area often and sometimes within 10 feet of our volunteers. They definitely had caused many of the cats to disappear. The colony cats names all
start with the letter K, and this includes Kateau. Our volunteers and the woman who was
feeding the cats were braving the elements daily to ensure this colony was looked after and
brought into care.

Personality:

Spending the first few months of his life having to avoid becoming coyote prey left a strong
impression on this beautiful boy. Kateau is quiet and doesn’t like to draw attention to himself.
But boy, does he love his snuggles once he gets to know you! The purrs erupt as soon as he’s
touched and he collapses on his side to roll for belly rubs. Kateau loves to sprawl across a lap
for TV time or to curl up with a friendly person and good book for an hour or more. He’s good
company for his work-from-home foster mom, snoozing in a basket by her desk with occasional forays to see what’s on-screen and get some extra ear rubs. Kateau’s quiet nature
vanishes when the treats come out; and he quickly learns when and where the treats are likely
to appear and makes sure he’s on the scene in advance. He would be very happy to have a
friendly kitty playmate, but would also be content as an only cat as long as there are people
around often to snuggle and play with. Kateau is ready to be adopted into his forever home.
One that will welcome him into the family and keep him safely indoors.
