Rescue:
Abby was a lost cat and had been living in a couple’s backyard since the spring. They have
a garden shed that’s made of wood, and has your usual things stored inside; lawnmower,
garden hose, tarps, and pots. This little cat made it a home once she realized there was a
gap under the door that was just big enough for her to scramble under. The shed provided
shelter from the wind, rain, and predators, and it served as a good place to have her litter
of four kittens. Once the couple realized there were babies (by now playing in the yard),
they worked on convincing them to come up onto the deck for food. It took a while but they
were successful. Realizing this feline family needed to be rescued they started looking for
a rescue organization to help them out. Sadly, two of the kittens had disappeared during
this time. In one day they were able to bring in Abby and her two remaining kittens; Apollo
and Aries. It is always best to rescue kittens close to eight weeks of age as they can be
handled more by people and socialized quickly. Also, the risk of them disappearing like the
other two is significantly reduced.
Personality:
Abby has surprised us all. When she first came into our care she would flinch when we
tried to touch her. With time and attention, she has become a very affectionate cat who is
likely to jump up on the couch and flop down beside you. She is learning to appreciate
belly rubs. Abby gets along well with other cats and is usually snuggled up to one of them,
purring happily. She will get excited when the laser pen light comes out, ready to chase it
and is enjoying all the new toys that she has never seen before. Abby is a nice kitty who
will be good company for someone. She is ready to be adopted into her forever home.
One that will welcome her into the family and keep her safely indoors.
