Rescue
Willa and her kittens were first noticed by a woman who put food out for the strays in her neighbourhood. She had first seen Willa in the fall, but had not realized that she was pregnant, as she was long haired. This momma cat apparently had four kittens, all long haired except for one. Every evening at six pm, momma would gingerly come towards the open garage door. She would look all around her, then go to the food dish. Once she realized all was safe she would call her kittens. One by one they would come to the garage, huddle around the food dish and eat eagerly. They were hungry by now as they played all day, ran after momma, chased leaves and slept in the bushes. But winter was approaching, and there is a small window of opportunity to rescue these cats and socialize them while young. It took time and patience and a lot of nights sitting in the cold garage, ready to pull the door shut on the big dog cage that the cats were now entering to eat their food. But it paid off. She rescued the entire feline family before the snow fell. Willa came in at two in the morning.

Personality
We think that Willa belonged to neighbours, and when they moved out they just plunked her outside the door and drove off. At that point she was maybe six months of age. Living on the street can be a terrifying experience when you are only six pounds and considered prey, and it certainly was for this little kitty. It has taken some time for her to adjust to her new foster home, but we can now pet her, and she smiles when you rub her ears. She likes to be brushed gently and have her neck and back massaged. With time and patience Willa has shown us her potential, and we look forward to her continued journey to being a confident cat again. In the meantime she is safe and sound in the care of Pet Patrol.
