Merlot was abandoned we assume. He was found out on a country property, in the middle of nowhere it seems, as there are few homes or businesses around. A woman who helps her friend, who owns the house, with his summer gardening noticed Merlot scooting around the side of the tool shed. She is a cat lover and always has a place in her heart for cats who are lost and have nothing to depend on. When she called to him, he looked back and stared for a bit, then carried on. Just in case, she drove into town and picked up a bag of cat food, it took her almost an hour for the round trip, and when she returned so had Merlot. This time he meowed at her. Then she knew that he was friendly, not feral and asking her
for help. He gobbled down the food, obviously he had not eaten for a long time, then trotted off. Her friend offered to continue feeding this handsome, but very thin, cat until she returned the next weekend with a cat carrier. True to her word she rescued him and brought him into Pet Patrol care where he demonstrated his appreciation for being rescued, for having people care for him and for a chance for a home for the rest of his life.

Merlot gives very powerful headbutts when he is happy. It makes you smile at how happy he is, and how much he loves all the attention. He is so affectionate and all about love. Merlot is a majestic tall and long cat, with a glossy black coat and a wonderful personality. He is good company, likes all the visitors to the sanctuary and greets them purring and rubbing up against their legs. He quite happy to be indoors. He has discovered the fun of catnip toys, crinkle balls and anything that dangles. Definitely was a house cat in his earlier life, but how he ended up lost or abandoned we will never know. Merlot is ready to be adopted into his forever home. One that will welcome him into the family and keep him safely indoors
