Rescue:

One of Pet Patrol’s volunteers lives in a small, close community, near a busy road. She has a dog, a cat and a number of birds in her home, and takes note of any stray cats and local wildlife that she sees roaming freely. Little Kandy showed up near the end of November looking all nice and clean and she thought maybe someone in the area had a new cat. It is never a good idea to let your cat roam freely as there are fox, coyote and hawks just waiting for that next meal. After three weeks of feeding her, this mostly white little cat was getting very dirty. Seeing this the woman knew she was a lost or abandoned cat, and was finding shelter under cars or trailer homes. Anything to keep the rain, snow and wind away from her. The search was on to find Kandy’s original owner, but no one seemed to be missing her. Food was provided for this little cat close to the insulated shelter beside the volunteer’s home and she made good use of it. Being very timid at the time, Kandy would run off if she was noticed or heard any noise. It took three attempts to rescue her in the humane trap, but nice smelly tuna finally lured her in, then it was on to Pet Patrol.

Personality:

It took a few days for Kandy to be sure of her new environment and to become familiar with the routine at the sanctuary. She had her own apartment like cage, and she could see the other cats and the volunteers who cared for her. By the third day she was accepting pets, and loved it. When she first arrived she had a greasy patch on her back, and it needed several soapy spongings to clean that off. Kandy was grateful to see that gone. She is a happy little cat now, gentle and sweet. She loves to have her head scratched, her ears rubbed and to be pet from head to tail. Her toys are a favourite, as is sitting in the cat hammock in the window. Kandy is ready to be adopted into her forever home. One that will welcome her into the family and keep her safely indoors.
