Rescue
Stray cats are everywhere, but if you don’t set up a feeding station then you may never see them. Cats will become nocternal when living on the streets. They can see very well in the dark, there is less traffic and virtually no people. With empty tummies and constantly being startled or attacked, they become skittish very quickly. Ellington is one of those cats. He showed up fleetingly, on the back patio of a nice couple in a downtown neighbourhood. They had been feeding him since the fall and their attempts to rescue him had failed. When Pet Patrol was finally able to provide foster space the woman began enticing him into her enclosed back porch, to be fed. It worked. Even though Ellington was not impressed by his confinement, it made it easier for us to rescue him. It took several months to convince him that he was safe, that people liked him and that he is cared for. Having total service of food, water, clean litter box and loving didn’t hurt either.
Personality
Ellington has come a long way in his recovery from his ordeal on the streets. He has become a very affectionate boy who loves to get on your lap for a cuddle and to give kitty kisses and face rubs. Ellington really shows his appreciation for the time and effort taken to help him become a confident cat again. He gets on very well with the other foster kitties and can be found cuddling with them or having a kitty wrestling match. Watching the birds and chipmunks through the window is another favourite pastime. He is now ready to be adopted into his forever home. One that will welcome him as part of the family and keep him safely indoors.
