One of our long time volunteers received a call from a friend of hers. It was a man in his late 70’s and he said a family cat had been left behind when the tenants moved out of their rental property. It was pretty little Duchess and she had been all alone in the house for a week or more. The house was going to be sold and while cleaning up he suddenly noticed Duchess and she was cowering in a corner then dashed through the house and hid again. Her owner was asked to come back for her cat, but she said just to put her outside with the rest of the junk. Wow. The man would not do that and asked his friends to come and help find her, and could Duchess come into the care of Pet Patrol. Absolutely. When they arrived to help the Landlord said she usually hides under the dresser, but not on this day. She couldn’t be found and it was thought that the owner had retrieved her. Just in case the man set up a humane trap, baited with yummy smelly fish, and the next day there she was, safe and secure in her cage and soon after brought into our care.

This poor girl was very shell shocked when she first arrived in Pet Patrol care but has done a complete 180 degrees thanks to the love and attention of her foster family. She is a born companion, chatty, affectionate and interested in everything you do. She likes to keep you company and reminds you that pets and loving need to be a very regular thing. She is clean, sure of herself and what she needs. While well behaved as an only cat she misses people and doesn’t like long absences. She will sometimes take your hand in her paw and hold it, then nibble on your fingers. She loves the cat scratching boards, wand toys, classical music and goes nuts for kitty treats and catnip. In Duchess you will find a grateful, loving and contented companion. She is ready to be adopted into her forever home. One that will welcome her into the family and keep her safely indoors.
