Rescue:

Not far from the Pet Patrol sanctuary there is a small town where one of our volunteers
lives. Everyone pretty much knows everyone else. It’s not much more than a street out in
the country, a small bridge over the river and at one end a farm. The owners of the property
live in the traditional way, make their living through farming, travel by horse and buggy and
have livestock in their barn. They also have a lot of cats. Having them spayed or neutered,
to control the overpopulation is not part of their lifestyle. They let nature take its course. For
Duchess, she had been there for about a year and had produced a litter of kittens in July.
Only her two boys Duke and Dane survived. The cats were fed sparingly, Barn Cat Buffet,
which is a cheap cat food that you can get at the local farmers co-op. A neighbour seeing
the plight of the cats set up a feeding station to attract the cats onto his property, and from
there he tries to find homes for them. Some are adopted into family homes through him and
some come into Pet Patrol care.

Personality:

When Duchess first came into Pet Patrol care she was very uncertain of her new surroundings.
She had never been anywhere that did not have cold cement floors, straw and manure.
She quickly took to the soft beds and generous food, eating daintily and stretching out in the
climate controlled kitty room. She is an adorable cat, sweet natured and gentle. It has
been interesting to watch her explore rooms, windows and meet the other cats. Toys were
quite a mystery for her, and she soon caught onto the fun side of things. Duchess is ready
to be adopted into her forever home. One that will welcome her into the family and keep
her safely indoors
