Rescue
Sophie and her kitty friend Gregory were raised in a home. They never had to live on the streets or fend for themselves, find shelter, or fend off cold and hunger. They never felt like they were prey, until their last home. Before that it was pretty easy living, and they loved their owners for it, but it is unclear to us why they gave these two lovely cats up. The young man who owned them since they were kittens offered them to one of his friends when he could no longer take care of them. After some thought, she agreed to help him out. Both Gregory and Sophie are people friendly cats, but they did not anticipate a dog in their new home. Both cats just cowered in the corner of the room and were absolutely terrified. After about three weeks of this, the woman realized this is no life for these good cats and did not want to damage their positive personalities. She called around looking for another home for them, and after exhausting all her connections she called Pet Patrol.
Personality
Sophie is a sweetheart and she is so easygoing that she will curl up by your pillow every night. Such a lovable girl. She is gentle, great with people and other cats. Just not dogs. Sophie is playful and likes her kitty toys, catnip and uses the scratching post. She is good at attracting sunbeams, rubbing up against your legs, purring and cuddling. The ultimate lap cat. She has shown us nothing but sweetness and joy. Sophie is ready to be adopted into a loving and gentle home. One that will welcome her into the family and where she will be kept safely indoors. She is a great cat and will be part of your family.

Rescue
Different cat rescue organizations do different types of rescuing. Some take in only friendly cats, others will orchestrate trap-neuter-release programs, and others will take care of feral cat colonies. That is where Sophie and her kittens came from, a feral colony that was trying to survive in the concrete jungle of an industrial park. Sophie is almost pure white, except for a grey smudge on top of her head, she was terribly frightened and very pregnant when rescued. She was enticed into a humane trap and taken to a quiet and caring foster home so she could have her kittens in safety. When she gave birth, she knew exactly what to do, but things were not quite right. Three of the kittens had their feet stuck in the placenta, and eventually one lost his foot due to lack of circulation. Then the littlest kitten passed away because basically, he was just not made right. But in the end, the rest of the kittens were healthy and adopted, and most loooked exactly like their momma.
Personality
Being raised in a parking lot, amongst cars and factories, does not create a sociable cat. But over time pretty little Sophie has learned to appreciate gentle petting, have her neck massaged or her ears rubbed, and she is trusting enough to be picked up and come to people for attention. Sophie is gentle and loving and has come a long way and has made herself at home. She can be found sleeping on the couch or on the bed with the other cats and her people too. She loves to play and will chase anything, uses a scratching post and joins in on games of Tag and Chase the Tail with the other foster kitties. Sophie is ready to be adopted into a forever home. One that will welcome her into the family and keep her safely indoors.

Rescue
Summer was first spotted in the barn at a country property. She was a wild girl and probably had never been touched by people. She lived an open, roaming type of life, but is was far from carefree. She had to hunt for her food, scrounge around, trying to find shelter and not become prey. It is becoming quite apparent that fox and coyote are finding cats to be a delicacy and will hunt them down before they try a musclebound squirrel or rabbit. Summer was always on edge. She showed up one day at the barn where a manufacturing company stored it’s organic gardening mulch. She was engorged with pregnancy, and the men working on the farm immediately started feeding her. Then one day, she was thin, and they knew she had given birth. Four tiny kittens were spotted deep inside the bales of hay, too far in to reach, and protected from other wildlife. Eventually all the kittens, Summer’s hubby, Tobius, her three kittens from the previous fall and her daughter’s two kittens were rescued. The whole family tree! Summer was the last to be rescued, taking one last run around the property and then quickly into the humane trap and onto safety.
Personality
Summer is a beautiful cat with a pretty face, deep green eyes, and a sweet disposition. She is timid and unsure but when she finds someone to trust, she gives all her love to them. She is the type of kitty who needs a serene home where there are not a lot of loud or unpredictable noises (like young children or barking dogs). She has discovered playing with toys now that life is less serious. Summer is pettable, and likes to have her ears rubbed, her back scratched and brushed, and under her chin done too. Summer is ready to be adopted into a gentle and loving home, one that will keep her safely indoors and love her unconditionally.
Commitment of the Heart

Rescue
It is assumed that Suzie Q was dumped in the country and somehow made her way to a soft hearted lady’s house. We don’t know how far she walked, or how many houses she meowed
at before being noticed and cared for. It was in the fall, the weather was nice and there was no sign of bitter cold winter weather coming any time soon. The woman was afraid that Suzie Q might be pregnant and was good enough to take her to the Vet. After an examination they determined that she probably was not pregnant and went ahead a spayed her successfully. After a few days of rest, the lady put her back outside again to sleep in the shed. Not what we would think as appropriate. Eventually she brought her indoors and Suzie Q was kept in the not so nice basement. The woman had been trying to find her a home and the weather was becoming very cold. This is the only space available. She did not have the support of her husband to keep Suzie Q. They also owned two very unpleasant dogs who would just upset any animal that came into the house. Eventually the lady reached out to cat rescue organizations and through the grape vine found Pet Patrol.
Personality
Suzie Q is a lovely, affectionate and sweet little cat. She is great with new people, is not shy and likes to be up on your lap or rubbing up against your legs. She certainly lets you know that she is loved. Suzie Q is fine with just one other cat, or as an only cat, as she would like all the attention for herself. It has been fun to watch her play with toys, roll around with the catnip mice and climb up the kitty climber to watch the squirrels outside. She is great company and just a good little kitty to have around. Suzie Q is ready to be adopted into a gentle and loving forever home. One that will welcome her into the family and keep her safely indoors.

Rescue
Tanner and his cat buddy were living on a country property. The place was owned by an elderly man who had an apartment in the basement of his home, a barn, and a couple of sheds. A woman rented the apartment from him for many years. They coexisted quite nicely, and being animal lovers they thought it would be nice to have some cats on the property. Some of the cats were spayed and neutered and some were not. To the best of our knowledge, Tanner was born on the property, socialized by the woman and lived happily there. Then everything changed. The elderly man died and his two sons wanted to clean up the property and sell it. There was a lot of junk laying around, the sheds were packed and so was the house. The woman had a difficult time finding a new place to move, she could only take so many cats with her, and poor Tanner had no place to go. Finally she brought him to Pet Patrol, and his buddy is presently living with her friend.
Personality
Tanner is a lovely cat. He is gentle and easy going, sweet and unassuming. Quite a favourite in his foster home. He is good with the other cats, and seeks out their friendship for playing, cuddling and affection. He also looks for his people too. Tanner has shown us that he is a cuddler, likes to be next to you on the bed, on your lap or warming your favourite chair. He is a lovely cat. Tanner plays as well, chasing toys and rolling around with the catnip. He likes to perch on the kitty climber and look outside at the birds and squirrels. He is a content kitty looking for his forever home. One that will welcome him as part of the family and keep him safely indoors.

Rescue
We are not sure where Toby originally came from, as he was turned into the local shelter. Sometimes people say they are strays, when they are actually owned cats, and sometimes the cat truly was a lost or abandoned cat. In any case, a very nice man adopted Toby into his home. He auditioned well at the shelter, but when he got home it was a different story. The apartment building had paper thin walls and every noise or voice bothered him. There were loud and angry voices in the apartment down stairs, and the busy street sounds were nothing like what he was used to. Poor Toby, he was having a hard time adjusting, no matter what his new owner did. A second kitten was adopted, and the two of them bonded immediately, and had a great time playing, but Toby would have nothing to do with his new owner. Toby is much better with women, and like we say, we do not know his complete history before the shelter.
Personality
Toby is a wonderful, loving and affectionate cat, who needs his forever home to be calm and predictable. He seems to prefer women, perhaps his first owner was a woman, and that is all he is used to, but he will gradually get used to a kind hearted man in the house as well. Toby gets along with playful cats, those that will share their toys, show him the kitty climber and like games of Tag and Hide & Seek. He is a beautiful long and lean orange tabby, with rich auburn stripes and beautiful deep gold eyes. Toby is ready to be adopted into his forever home. One that will welcome him into the family and keep him safely indoors.

Rescue
One of Pet Patrol’s volunteers lives just outside of town where it is not uncommon to have abandoned and stray cats show up at their neighbour’s home. They care for about eight feral (wild) cats there and provide food, fresh water and shelter. One by one these cats have been rescued, and if friendly, they find them homes, if truly feral, they are spayed or neutered and released back outside where they resume feeding and caring for them. For our volunteer, their living room windows look out onto bush and trees and one day they spotted little Tonto and his momma Tilley sitting on their deck. It was unusual for strays to be at their door, but immediately food was put out for them and the two dove into the food. Within a few days our volunteer had rescued Tilley but it took another week to bring in Tonto. This little guy immediately showed us that he enjoyed being indoors and out of the cold and rain. But he has yet to show us his gentle side.
Personality
Tonto is a good looking black and white cat with a dot on his chin that looks like a goatee. He is a big goof too. He is a playful little guy and likes to climb the kitty climber and chase cat nip mice around the room. He perches up on top of the TV cabinet and watches with interest at the squirrels and activity outside the window. Tonto does like the company of the other cats in our care and would do well with a playmate in his new home. He is timid with new people and would not do well in a home with children or barky dogs. With time and patience, Tonto will be a great cat to have in your home. He is looking for a calm and predictable home. One that will welcome him as part of the family and love him unconditionally.

Tonto is part of our Commitment Of The Heart program. If you are interested in sponsoring him, please call 519.669.1979.

Rescue
Poor Tori, in her short life she has had many changes. Her first home was with a young woman who got a huge job promotion and in celebration she adopted Tori as a kitten. She was then transferred to another city and left Tori behind with her roommate (we don’t understand why). The roommate suffered from bouts of depression and some times Tori got a lot of attention, amd then for long periods of time she got nothing. Sometimes she had a regular routine and was fed daily, had water and a clean litter box. Then there would be nothing. The basement apartment they moved into was dark and damp. Junk and garbage accumulated and it smelled mouldy. It just added to the depression. The girl’s family convinced her to give Tori to Pet Patrol so that a better home could be found.
Personality
Tori came to Pet Patrol suffering from depression like her previous owner. She was despondent, and did not care if anyone came near her. She just curled up on the kitchen chair and hid her head. It is common for cats to take on our emotions and feel what we feel. This may seem charming, but it can be detrimental to the cat. They are not meant to carry our sorrow or anger; they should only have happiness and security. They are just little cats. Tori has settled into her foster home and with a lot of love and care and a dependable schedule of good food, fresh water and a clean litter box, she has improved. Needing more stimulus to bring her out of her depression, we have introduced her to a fully enclosed, garden filled backyard. She is thrilled and we have watched Tori become a friendly and affection-seeking kitty over the past two years. She is now starting to blossom. Tori is ready to be adopted into a gentle and loving home that is calm and predictable. It is essential that she have everything that Pet Patrol has provided for her, to continue her good mental health.

Rescue
Waverly and her siblings were first noticed by a woman who put food out for her momma. She had not realized that the momma cat, Willa, was pregnant, as she was well fed and long haired. She ended up having four kittens, all long haired except for Waverly. Every evening at six pm, momma would gingerly come towards the open garage door, look all around her, then check out the food dish. Once she realized all was safe she would call her kittens. One by one they would come to the garage, huddle around the food dish and eat eagerly. They were hungry as they had played all day, ran after momma, chased leaves, and slept in the bushes. But winter was approaching, and there is a small window of opportunity to rescue cats and socialize them while young. It took time and patience and a lot of nights of sitting in the cold garage ready to pull the door shut on the big dog cage that the cats were now entering in order to eat their food. But it paid off. We rescued the entire feline family before it snowed.
Personality
Waverly is a beautiful tuxedo cat. She does best with new people who are gentle and don’t rush up to her. She will flop over so you can rub her belly and her paws will knead the air. Quite adorable. Waverly loves to play and is good with other cats too. She can be seen patting at a ball, watching a dangling string with intent, and then grabbing it with excitement. She is quite attached to her brother Wyatt. Waverly would do well in an adult home, as we feel the energy level of children may be upsetting for her. She is a wonderful little cat, ready for a gentle, loving and permanent home.

Personality
We think that Willa belonged to neighbours, and when they moved out they just plunked her outside the door and drove off. At that point she was maybe six months of age. Living on the street can be a terrifying experience when you are only six pounds and considered prey, and it certainly was for this little kitty. It has taken some time for her to adjust to her new foster home, but we can now pet her, and she smiles when you rub her ears. She likes to be brushed gently and have her neck and back massaged. With time and patience Willa has shown us her potential, and we look forward to her continued journey to being a confident cat again. In the meantime she is safe and sound in the care of Pet Patrol.

While running a cat rescue organization, for as long as Pet Patrol has been around, you run into a lot of interesting people. One is a woman who is well known as an expert in animal communication. She is very interesting and has answered a lot of questions about cats and other animals. Sometimes we don’t understand unusual behaviour, and generally the cat is trying to tell us something, which this woman is able to find out for us. In any case, a momma cat decided that her garage would be a good place to investigate and eventually bring her brood of four kittens with her. Seeing this family, our friend began feeding them, talking to them, and gaining their trust. The kittens all thrived and have become quite nice and gentle cats. Wyatt is one of the four and has three other siblings. All the kittens have their mother Willa’s sweet face.
Personality
Wyatt is a beautiful cat. He does well with new people who are gentle and don’t rush up to him. He will flop over so you can rub his belly and his paws will knead the air. Quite adorable. Wyatt loves to play and is good with other cats too. He can be seen patting at a ball, watching a dangling string with intent, and then grabbing it with excitement. He loves to sit on his kitty perch and watch the traffic, birds and squirrels outside, and is just learning to play. He started on shoe laces and plastic spiral kitty toys. Don’t leave a newspaper on the floor though, or it will be everywhere when he is finished reading it! Zakariah does not like people food, with the exception of cheese, and ignores what is going on in the kitchen. He will sleep at your feet, sit beside you on the couch, and can be chatty especially at feeding time. Zakariah is ready to be adopted into his forever home. Rescue
Through the grapevine of rescue organizations, Pet Patrol became aware of Zebedee and Florence. Here is their story: A woman went to see a “breeder” of Flame Point Siamese, and was shocked to find the cats were kept in an unheated shed at the back of the property. There were more than two dozen cats there and they were kept in wire cages with bits of cardboard and no proper food or comfort. The man usually bred birds and small animals for pet stores, but was talked into taking the Siamese from a breeder who no longer wanted to do it. He was also this woman’s former elementary school teacher, now retired. She kindly offered to find the cats homes and over time just did that. Zebedee and Florence were the last two, and the most traumatized by the experience. Once all the cats were safely out of harm’s way, the man was reported to the local SPCA for cruelty to animals. Back street breeders need to be reported and stopped.
Personality
Zebedee was a very nervous boy when he first arrived. Like all Siamese, when he became nervous he sought out the highest place he could find; the top of the bakers rack! He is now a fairly confident cat and can be seen playing with the toys or doing the Kitty Indy 500 with one of the other cats. He enjoys the company of the other cats in his foster home. He especially likes cuddling with Florence, the cat who was rescued at the same time as him. They are best buddies and hold kitty conversations. He would do well in a calm home with people who were willing to be patient with him. It would be nice for Zebedee and Florence to remain together in their forever home. One that will welcome them into the family and keep them safely indoors.
