Pet Patrol received a call from a woman worried about the number of cats in her backyard and over flowing into the neighborhood. About three years ago a little tortoise shell cat arrived under her back deck, inside a gopher hole. This was Gabrielle. She was well protected, but it took the woman months to gain the cat’s trust. Unable to bring the cat into the home, she provided a well insulated cat house and food, water and affection every day. Fast forward to this spring and the same kitty had produced two litters each year, and her offspring were either rescued or left to roam the streets. The neighbours were now fed up with the growing population of cats and started to trap them. Those they got were taken to a farm, and Pet Patrol was informed about the most recent litter just as they were rounding them up to send off to the same property. This farm apparently does not feed the cats, and the cats that had been taken there already had not stayed. Cats will leave an environment if it is unsafe, has no protective shelter and no food provided. How very, very sad. Gabrielle, her daughter Gaia, and her eight tiny grand kittens were brought into Pet Patrol care where they have all thrived.

Gabrielle is a very sweet cat, who responds to being called Momma. She is curious and concerned at the same time while living at the sanctuary, partly because of the number of cats here, and partly because she misses the lady who cared for her for many years. She responds to her main care giver, liking to be pet and cooed to, showing promise that when in the right home she would be the happy and affectionate cat that we know she can be. Just a little time and patience, soft talks and being enticed yummy treats. Like all Torti’s she is intelligent and assesses situations quickly. Torti’s bond closely to their owners and are loyal to their families. Gabrielle is quite attached to her daughter Gaia, and it would be nice if they could be adopted together. They are ready to be welcomed into their forever family and kept safely indoors.
