Pet Patrol was made aware of a mother cat and her five little kittens about 10 weeks old
that were living out in a field. They were searching for food during the day, grasping at
shade under shrubs and always in need of water. One woman had taken it upon herself to
start feeding the cats, putting out fresh water and soon they took up shelter under her deck.
They were at least safer than out in the open. It was one of our new volunteers that offered
to help rescue the cats, with the help of the lady who lived in the house. A humane trap was
put in place and one kitten and the mother cat were rescued the first morning. That evening
two more kittens came in and next morning one little one. Just one more baby kitten out
there and it came into our care soon after that. All the little ones were timid at first, but it
didn’t take long for them to become accustomed to the love and affection they received from
their foster mom. Now Misty and her brother Marcel are ready for their new home.
Maple is a bit shy but will lean in for head scratches. She is pretty easy to love – she
doesn’t mind being carried around or scooped into laps, at which point she is quite cuddly
and purrs a lot. She absolutely adores the older resident cat, so we think she might enjoy a
house with another pet, as he makes her feel safe. She loves to play in the kitty tunnel so
much that she contributed to the kitten team effort of destroying it. She likes hunting little
toy mice or bouncy balls, but she’s is too smart and knows it’s a person controlling the wand
toy. Maple is ready to be adopted into a quiet forever home. One that will welcome her
into the family and keep her safely indoors.
